Osher Reentry Scholarship Program
Overview
The Foundation defines reentry students as individuals who have experienced an interruption in their education of five or more years and who now want to resume their undergraduate university studies to complete their degree. This scholarship is intended to benefit students who have considerable years of employability ahead of them—ideally aged 25 to 50.
Qualified students may include part- and full-time students, with a strong preference given to newly matriculating students at the institution receiving Osher Reentry Scholarship grant funds. Students must demonstrate financial need, academic promise and a commitment to completing their degree. The Foundation requests that scholarship awards be applied directly to student tuition fees exclusively.
Reentry students often have special needs including matriculation and career counseling, familiarization with new information technology used in higher education and balancing the requirements of their families and employment. The Foundation intends to identify institutions that have established services that address these needs and aid in the success of reentering students.
The Foundation will consider applications for grants from institutions of higher education of up to $50,000 a year with a possible renewal for a second or third year. Upon demonstrated success, the Foundation will consider establishing endowments of $1 million to provide permanent support for the Osher Reentry Scholarships.
Guidelines
Proposals for Osher Reentry Scholarship grants are accepted by invitation only. The Foundation only supports 4-year institutions that serve reentry students for this program.
